Norman Edward Goodwin was born in Salem, June 21, 1920, as the first son of Perry Cay and Esta May Goodwin.
He grew up in Salem and later attended and graduated from Hendrix College in Conway. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 27 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant colonial by the time of his retirement from the military.
After his military career he served for 15 years as director of student services at the Univer-sity of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Upon his retirement from his second career he traveled extensively making many friends around the world. Goodwin was an active member and supported the Methodist Church and counted among his closest friends the clergy he met throughout his life.
Goodwin died in Oklahoma City, Okla., on May 12, 2004, and according to his wishes, was cremated. His family is returning Norm's remains to Salem to fulfill what they believe to be his desire to come home. His remains will be laid to rest in the Salem Cemetery in a graveside service at 2 p.m. Oct. 22. Any-one who remembers the family and wishes to attend is welcome.
He is survived by his children, Deborah and David Goodwin both of Oklahoma City; daughter-in-law, Nina Goodwin; dear family friend, Sonja Martinez; and by his beloved grandson, Keith Edward Goodwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Merle Larson of Kansas City; and a brother, Perry Cay Goodwin Jr. of Little Rock.
Local funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home, of Salem, Ark.
