Thelma Lois Oakes, 87, a homemaker, died Oct. 13, 2005, at her home at Hardy, Ark.
She was born March 6, 1918, in Sharp County, Ark., the daughter of the late George and Mary Murphy Byers. She was a member of the Banks Baptist Church.
Survivors include four children, Murlene Traw of El Paso, Texas, Carol Powell and husband, C.R. "Tex" of Coffeeville, Miss., Sherman Oakes of Hardy and Ronnie Oakes and wife, Rebecca, of Hardy; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Gleena Oakes; one grandson, Marcus Case; four brothers, Johnnie, Lloyd, Virgil and Herschel Byers; two infant brothers and two sisters, Ruthie Break and Delphia Smith.
The funeral service was Oct. 17 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial followed in the McCollough Cemetery near Wirth, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer, Mo.
Pallbearers were Jason Oakes, Terry Traw, Tyler Trivett, Andy Oakes, Terry Oakes and Larry Mahaffey.
