Graveside services for Laverne Melton, 68, of Couch were held Aug. 25 at Cotton Creek Cemetery with Pastor Ralph Douglas officiating, under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
She was born the daughter of the late Marshall Parker and Dorothy Connor Parker on May 21, 1937, in Egypt, Ark., and died Aug. 23, 2005, in Couch.
She was united in marriage Dec. 6, 1952, in Bono, Ark. to Kenneth Melton.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, of the home in Couch; one daughter, Phyllis Crowder, and husband, Jim, of Couch; on son, Doug Melton, and wife, Jan, of Couch; five grandchildren -- Sgt. Daniel Crowder of Manama Bahrain, Matthew Crowder and wife, Amelia, of Myrtle, Nichole Brooks and husband, Pfc. Chad Brooks of Ft. Richardson, Alaska, Adam Crowder of Couch and Douglas Melton of Couch; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Brooks of Ft. Richardson, Alaska; five brothers -- Daniel Parker of Jonesboro, Charles Parker of Jonesboro, Dub Parker of Bono, Ark., Jimmy Parker of Fayetteville, N.C., and David Parker of Jonesboro; seven sisters -- Carol Walker of Bay, Ark., Thelma Porter of Smithville, Barbara Hendrix of Ash Flat, May Bagwell of Smithville, Deborah Brooks of Paragould, Sharon Vernon of Harrisburg, and Cathy Ezell of Brookland; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Doris Benton and one brother, Gerald Parker.
She was baptized many years ago and became a member of the Church of Christ. She was a seamstress and was employed for many years by Puritan Fashions, Barads and Arlee Home Fashions. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
Burial will be in Cotton Creek Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
