OREGON COUNTY -- The investigation of an ATV accident Nov. 23 by the Oregon County Sheriff's Department has led to the discovery of a stolen ATV.
Officers with the sheriff's department and Missouri State Trooper Ray Rese responded to the ATV accident call at 11:02 p.m. at the intersection of Oregon County Roads 333 and 348, just off Z Highway.
Deputy sheriff Eric King reported that a 35-year-old man had driven the ATV into a tree. Oregon County Ambulance personnel responded to the scene but the man refused medical attention.
Sheriff Tim Ward ran a check on the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the 2005 Polaris 250 Trail Blazer that was involved in the accident and discovered it was stolen from Lathrop, Mo., in Clinton, County. Ward said it is standard procedure of his office to seek information on a vehicle involved in an accident by running the VIN.
The man was not charged in the incident, but it is still under investigation by the sheriff's department and the highway patrol.
Ward said this makes the seventh stolen ATV his department has recovered this year.
