9 teams take part in Hardy cleanup

Thursday, October 13, 2005

Participants consisting of nine teams took part in Hardy's Great Fall Cleanup, under the auspices of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful event Oct. 1 at Thompson Park. Six teams took part in the cleanup in north Hardy to 4th Street, two in south Hardy, and one Cub Scout Troop under the leadership of Ann Reynolds cleaned two of the city parks.

Mayor Louie Seibert and Recorder/Treasurer Carolyn Groves were on hand to assist. Ruth Reynolds, local advocate for recycling, was on hand, too. Police Chief Ernie Rose patrolled Main Street for safety.

Teams included the city council, Hardy Garden Club, Hardy First Baptist Church, merchants and citizens of all ages.

Sponsors included McDonald's of Hardy, Sonic of Hardy, 1st Community Bank of Hardy and the FNBC.

Fifty-three people signed in. Ten of those have agreed to work each month on picking up litter. The Hardy Garden Club and the city council have adopted sections also.

Keep Arkansas Beautiful furnished 35 T-shirts, gloves and sacks. The Arkansas Highway Department also furnished sacks and vests. Madison Auto Parts donated a bundle of gloves for the cleanup people to use.

Eight hundred pounds of litter was collected.
