THAYER -- Homecoming and Thayer High School alumni activities will be held this weekend in Thayer and the 1955 undefeated Thayer Bobcat football team, cheerleading squad and graduating class of 1955 will be honored. Any member of the team, squad or class who would like to participate in the weekend activities is invited to do so.
Festivities will get under way Oct. 14 with a homecoming parade through downtown starting at 2 p.m. Members of the 1955 team and cheerleaders are invited to ride in the parade. Call Rhona Simpson or Valerie Pitts at 417-264-7261 for more information.
At 5 p.m. there will be a tailgate barbecue at the football field prior to the homecoming court crowning at 6 p.m. The three seniors who have been selected as homecoming candidates this year are LaShanda Horton, Heather Coffel and Brittany Allen. Attendants are Becky Madden, Krysta Adams and Jade Underwood.
At 7 p.m. the homecoming football game will begin. Thayer will take on the Cabool Bulldogs.
After the football game all alumni are invited to an open house mixer at the elementary school cafeteria for refreshments and conversation with classmates.
The alumni banquet will be Oct. 15 at the Thayer High School. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Alumni are asked to bring a covered dish of either a vegetable, salad or dessert. Meat, bread and drinks will be furnished.
Entertainment for the banquet will be provided by Ron Griffith. The evening will end with recognition of the 1955 Bobcats and cheerleaders. There will also be recognition of Thayer graduating classes starting from the year 2000 and back in increments of five years at the banquet.
An alumni business meeting will follow the banquet. Alumni registration dues are $10. The dues are used to fund scholarships and the annual homecoming banquet.
