The Salem Greyhound 10-and-under Mighty Mite football team capped a successful run through the Turkey Bowl Tournament Nov. 19 and 20 in Little Rock with a fourth-place finish.
Salem found itself in new territory in the tourney, as for the first time this year, the Greyhound Mighty Mites played in games that involved kickoffs and punts.
First up, the Hounds faced the North Little Rock Panthers.
Salem held its own, but the Panthers were able to score on a punt and kickoff return, en route to an 18-8 win by North Little Rock.
The Greyhound Mighty Mites took on Star City in the second game of the day Nov. 19, a team that was considered by most as one of the top squads in the state of Arkansas.
Salem was unable to stop the Bulldogs and lost 21-0.
Facing elimination on the second day of the tournament, Salem found itself in a rematch with North Little Rock.
A little more prepared the second time around, the Hounds knocked off the Panthers 18-12 in overtime to take third place in the two-day tournament, and a fourth-place finish at the state level.
The organizers of Salem Mighty Mite football thank all the parents, players and following sponsors for helping make this a successful season: Town and Country, Perryman Realty and Salem Drug Company.
