Truck driver faces drug delivery charges

Thursday, November 17, 2005

A Salem man posted bond of $50,000 after he was charged last week with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a class Y felony.

Justin Grimmett, a 36-year-old truck driver, allegedly sold methamphetamine on three occasions in January 2004 to an undercover informant while under surveillance by Brian Sanderson, investigator with the 16th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

In the arrest affidavit, Sanderson wrote that the informant had contacted him about arranging the the first controlled buy, which occurred on Jan. 25, 2004. Sanderson wrote that a second controlled buy was carried out on the same day, and a third was carried out Jan. 31, 2004, at an apartment complex in Salem. Both buys were conducted under Sanderson's surveillance, according to the affidavit.

Sanderson said he returned a year later, on Jan. 8, 2005, with a search warrant for Grimmett's apartment where he found drug paraphernalia, including one glass pipe with burnt residue, a small bag containing white residue and hollow pen tubes with residue.

Grimmett is scheduled to be arraigned in Fulton County Circuit Court Dec. 12.
