Donna Rowena Eells Woodside, 84, of Lufkin, Texas, died Aug. 7, 2005, in Lufkin. She was born May 12, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla., the daughter of Donald Vincent Eells and Martha LaVerne Wingel Eells. She married John A. Woodside, her husband of 32 years, Feb. 7, 1942.
She graduated first in her class from Ponca City, Okla High School and with top honors from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She taught history and business for five years at West Orange-Cove High School, Texas, where she was highly respected as a teacher and mentor.
The family moved from Orange, Texas, to Kuwait in the mid-1960s. While there she was a member of the school board for the International School. Other jobs of her husband took her to Spain and Saudi Arabia, which she supported and was always a positive presence.
Throughout her life she was a loving wife and mother, and a loyal active church member of the United Methodist Church, for which she served on various church committees. She was an excellent bridge player and an excellent cook.
Survivors include her husband, John A. Woodside, Lufkin, Texas; two daughters, Mariane Woodside Knoxville, Tenn., and Gayle Woodside, Austin, Texas; a granddaughter, Donna Roberts; and two great-grandchildren, Macon and Madalena Roberts, current residents in Munich, Germany.
Her parents, two children, Sharon Diane Woodside and Donald Clare Woodside, preceded her in death.
