Relay for Life to hold survivor reception

THAYER -- The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Oregon County encourages cancer survivors and their caregivers to attend a celebration of life.

The special celebration will be May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Room of the Thayer Church of Christ.

The Survivors Celebration will kick off the Relay for Life of Oregon County. Relay for Life commemorates the lives of hundreds of Oregon County residents who have survived cancer, while offering the hope of finding a cure.

Survivors in attendance will have an opportunity to pick up their T-shirts and survivor pins, and receive instructions about the night of the relay. There will be a guest speaker and refreshments will be served.

"The Cancer Survivors Reception is a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate life and hope while honoring the personal journey of cancer survivors," said Jessica Rudd, survivor chairman. "Every survivor is invited whether they were diagnosed today, yesterday, or 30 years ago," she said.

Rudd ask that those planning to attend RSVP to the Thayer Chamber of Commerce at 417-264-7324 by May 5, 4 p.m.

Russ said the American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research. education, advocacy and service.

The deadline to register a team is April 10. Registration forms and fees are to be turned in to Carrie Wynn at the Bank of Thayer.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Oregon County will be May 16 starting at 7 p.m. at the Thayer High School Football Field.
