March 11 was a happy day for Ruby Reeves of Mammoth Spring, where she and her sister, Thelma, have lived for 13 years. It was her 93rd birthday.
Reeves was born in Vernon, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. L.L. McLeod. She was raised in Liberty Heights where she and her girlfriend Gladys were referred to as the "Liberty Heights Girls."
Reeves was married in Dallas on Feb. 15, 1930, to Andrew M. Reeves; they lived several years in California and retired in Mammoth Spring in 1974. Her husband and two of her sons, Don and Roger, are deceased. Her youngest son, Jerry, and his wife, Beth, were unable to attend her birthday celebration this year but sent their love.
Attending her birthday were her sister, Thelma, her daughter-in-law, Joyce Reeves, and granddaughters, Tammy and Jody, and her great-great-granddaughter, Kayleigh, all from St. Louis; her informally adopted son and daughter, Eddie and Joyce Burkett from Lufkin, Texas; John and Mary Lamb from Cherokee Village; Barbara Harrison, Shirley Wilson and Sara Coker from Thayer; and Martha Bennett of Mammoth Spring.
