MS School Board hopes to hire basketball coach before April

Friday, March 24, 2006

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The Mammoth Spring School Board reviewed applications for the position of boys high school basketball coach at their March 13 school board meeting.

Superintendent Ron Taylor told the board that many applications for the position have been received and he is hoping to interview applicants in the near future.

Taylor said the position might be filled before the April 10 school board meeting. He said a special meeting could be called in order to hire a new coach. Coach Bob Maguffee presented his resignation and it was accepted by the school board last month.

The board looked at bids to replace all the windows and doors in the high school and the community building. The board accepted the low bid of $52,864 from Mountain Home Glass for the community building project and $133,437 for the door and window project at the high school.

Taylor said all new windows and doors will be energy efficient. "The projects will be paid for with a combination of local and state funds. We applied for a Arkansas school facility grant that will cover 52 percent of the project," Taylor said.

The board voted to amend the 2005-06 school calender. The district has two snow days left of their original four scheduled snow days. Because of this the board voted to extend Easter to also include Monday, April 17. The board also voted to make May 19 a day out of school. This will be the Friday before final testing starts the following Monday. The last day of school in the district will be May 26.

The board voted to let the gym floor project go to Jarrett Enterprises of Cabool, Mo. The company will sand the floor down to the wood and paint the floor. It will cost $6,885.
