James (J.W.) Fowler, of Waterford, Mich., died Nov. 26, 2006, at the age of 79.

He was born May 18, 1927, in Ash Flat, Ark., son of the late Merle and Mable Fowler, stepson of the late Freda Fowler.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris (Hatman) Fowler (recently celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary), a child, Mable (Dominic) Doot of Farmington Hills, Mich., a brother, Lehman Folwer of Brinkley, Ark., Peggy Jean Kissinger of West Plains, Mo., Gilbert (Teri) Fowler of Ash Flat, Syble (Wilbur) Nicholson of Sherwood, Ark., Keith (Carol) Fowler of Cherokee Village, Freda Jean Godwin of Searcy, Ark., and the late Waymon Fowler; a sister-in-law, Claudia Fowler of Sears, Mich., and also many nieces and nephews.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Post WWII Occupation Force in Berlin.

He joined the City of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., police department in 1953 as a patrolman, was a seargeant for many years and the Chief of Police from 1969-1974 and retired as deputy director of Public Safety in 1982.

Fowler was a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church of Waterford, Mich., the Fraternal Order of Police 132 of Pontiac, Mich., and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and loved to share his bounty.

A celebration of James' life was held Nov. 30 at Bethany Baptist Church 1375 Hiller Rd., Waterford, Mich. Rev. Dr. James E. Bolin Jr. officiated.

Interment followed in Crescent Hills Cemetery.
