The Thayer Lady Bobcats (18-3) wasted little time, or little effort, in blasting the Mansfield Lady Lions 75-42 Feb. 5 at Thayer.
The Lady Cats' swarming defense and quick hands had Mansfield scuffling all night long in an attempt to just get the ball across halfcourt and set up any kind of offense.
Micah Stevens (12 points) got things clicking for Thayer by popping a pair of jumpers, while Kaley Hebert (14 points) pulled the same trick, pushing the Lady Bobcats on top 8-zip.
Brittany Cruse hit the Lady Lions' first bucket of the game at the 4:47 mark of the first, but Thayer ripped off the next six points, two from Kristen Earls, four from Hebert, as Thayer extended its lead to 14-2.
Chelsey Cabrales (14 points) got loose down in the paint for eight points late in the frame, helping Thayer to a 25-11 advantage after one.
As efficient as they were around the baseline in the first, the Lady Bobcats proved equally effective from beyond the 3-point arc in the second, as Krysta Adams proved.
Adams (17 points) knocked down three triples in the second period, as Thayer outscored Mansfield 27-10 in the frame to build a commanding 52-21 lead at intermission.
Thayer continued to pour it on in the second half, leading 69-35 after three, en route to a big 75-42 victory over the Lady Lions.
Hope Hunt finished with five points for Thayer, while Samantha Oakes added four. Melissa Cabrales, Hanna Driskell and Casey Sims logged four points each, with Caitlin Atkisson posting one point for the Lady Bobcats.
As one-sided as Thayer's victory over Mansfield was, the Lady Bobcats' next W, Feb. 7, was even bigger.
Thayer blasted the Eminence Lady Redwings 63-17.
The Lady Bobcats started their week by topping the Alton Lady Comets for the third time on the year, 71-66 Feb. 4.
Alton jumped in front 9-2 to start the game, and the Lady Comets held a 22-16 lead after a high-scoring first period of play.
Thayer then scored 25 points in the second period to move on top 41-38 at the half.
Stevens tallied 26 points to pace Thayer, while Shelli Ellis tossed in a game-high 29 for Alton.
