James S. LaFollette, 82, of Cherokee Village, died March 17, 2006, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
He was born Aug. 10, 1923, in College Springs, Iowa, the son of O.N. LaFollette and Zora Williby LaFollette.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during World War II. He was a retired educator, having served as an elementary school principal in Iowa before retiring and moving to Cherokee Village in 1979.
He was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association and helped to open the South Golf Course in Cherokee Village. He also loved to play cards. LaFollette was a member of the Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara LaFollette; two sons, Larry and Terri LaFollette of Toledo, Ohio, and Roger LaFollette of Hayward, Calif.; one daughter, Nancy Stedelin of Cherokee Village; three grandchildren, Mike Stedelin of Edwardsville, Ill., Tim and Atsuko Stedelin of Japan (Air Force) and Andrew LaFollette of Bowling Green, Ohio; three brothers and their wives, Robert and Beulah Lafollette of Des Moines, Iowa, Walter and Barbara LaFollette of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Chuck and Ruth LaFollette of Englewood, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Doris, who died as a child.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County Funeral Home of Hardy.
