Jacob Jessie "JJ" Collins graduated from Mid-America Christian College in Oklahoma City on May 5 with many honors.
He was salutatorian of his class and was named to the 2007 Who's Who at American Colleges and Universities. He was named to the Dean's List on numerous occasions and earned the English Award. He began his student teaching during the spring semester of 2007 and received the Geraldine Burns' Award from OCTE, the first to receive the award at this college.
In 2001, Jay and is wife, Jennifer Smith Collins and their daughter, Tara, moved to Oklahoma City to attend college and prepare to work in the ministry. In 2003, he lost his wife, Jennifer, to leukemia. This loss changed Jay's life and he decided to pursue a career in teaching and complete his and his late wife's dream of finishing college.
On June 4, 2005, he married Rachael Landsberry and they now have a son, Aden Jayce, born May 1, 2006.
Jay plans to pursue a career as an educator and earn a master's degree and then a doctorate degree in education.
He is a 1998 graduate of Mammoth Spring High School and the son of Homer and Donna Collins of Mammoth Spring.
