Howard Raymond Mulkey was born the son of James Henry Mulkey and Stella Sweaney Mulkey on June 22, 1927, in Thayer, Mo., and died Jan. 3, 2008, in Thayer, Mo., at the age of 80.
He was united in marriage to Daisy Mills on Sept. 8, 1946, at Mammoth Spring, Ark., and they were married for 61 years.
Howard served in the United States Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was honored with the World War II Victory, American Area Victory, Good Conduct National Defense Service, American Campaign and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Thayer where he served as deacon for 35 years, treasurer for 15 years and song leader for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Mulkey of the home in Thayer; five children, Ray "Rick" Mulkey and wife, Marcia of Springfield, Mo., Steven Mulkey and wife, Debra of Cameron Park, Calif., Mark Mulkey of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Frances Gingles and husband, Tim of Raymore, Mo., and Carol Ford and husband, Mike of Peace Valley, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Crawford of Thayer, Mo.; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; six brother, Earl, Ralph, Bill, Edgar and Ronnie and Dale Mulkey; and three sisters, Violet Malone, Treva Gradoski and Eva Densmore.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at the First Assembly of God Church in Thayer. Burial followed in the New Salem Cemetery near Couch, Mo., with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
