Good Samaritan ends up with stab wounds from pole

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Another camp site altercation led to the arrest of a West Plains man July 16.

Mark Wake, 34, was arrested after wounding a man who was trying to stop a physical fight between Wake and his girlfriend, according to Fulton County Deputy Johnny Byler.

Byler said he responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. on July 16 concerning an altercation at Bogey Point campsite in Elizabeth.

When Byler arrived at the site of the incident, he said he learned Wake had stabbed a fellow camper -- Jason Boyd, 25 -- with a tent pole in his left bicep.

After speaking with witnesses and the involved parties, Byler learned Jason Boyd and his father found Wake and his girlfriend in a fight and saw Wake allegedly try to hit her with a tent pole, he said.

In the process of trying to break up the altercation, Wake apparently turned on Boyd's father and Boyd was stabbed with the tent pole when he tried to stop Wake from attacking his father, Byler said.

Wake was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a class D felony.

Boyd was transported by ambulance to Baxter County Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
