MAMMOTH SPRING -- There are many end of summer and fall events planned at Mammoth Spring State Park.
Aug. 6-11: The 114th Old Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Air Force Reunion will be at the park. There will be carnival rides, games, prizes, crafts, food booths and talent shows. The event is sponsored by the local VFW Post 7831 and offers an entire week of fun for the entire family.
Aug. 11: A Civil War enactment is planned at the park at 2 p.m. There will be tours of the encampment, drills performed and canon firing demonstrations. The encampment will be presented by the 45th Arkansas Calvary.
Sept. 1: The 24th annual Antiques and Classic Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. People are invited to enter their pre-1980s car or truck or come by just to look at the awards and dash plaques presented to the first 50 registrants.
Sept. 8: The Great Arkansas Clean-up will be the last Spring River clean-up of the year. Park employees and local outfitters are asking the community to join them at the park at 8 a.m. The clean-up will end at 4 p.m.
Oct. 7: The 9th annual Spirit of Country Gospel Sing will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the park. This is sponsored annually by K-Kountry 95 of Thayer.
Oct. 13: A Flint Knapping Workshop will be held at the park from 1-4 p.m. This is where the community can learn the basics of flint knapping. It is open to people 14 years old and older. The workshop is limited to 20 people and reservations must be made.
Also on Oct. 13 a Basket Weaving Workshop is planned at the park. This will be a hands-on workshop from 1-5 p.m. Reservations for the workshop are required by Oct. 6.
