MYRTLE -- The Couch School Board met in special session Aug. 13 in the school library with all board members present for a tax rate hearing. The board set the tax rate in the operating fund at $3.43.
After the special session the board reconvened for the regular school board meeting. The board approved the election results from the Aug. 7 election in the school district.
Proposition K, which asked voters in the district to transfer the 68 cent debt service to the districts operating fund, passed 147 to 24 votes.
The board voted to approve a lease/purchase agreement with the Alton Bank to purchase a new school bus.
The board discussed health insurance options and voted to table the issue until the September board meeting.
Gate admission prices to sporting events at the school was discussed.
The board voted to set admission prices for adults at $3 and $2 for students, with a maximum family charge of $8. District senior citizens will continue to be admitted free of charge with the pass issued through the school office.
Superintendent Tom Bull told the board several new air conditioners had been purchased at the school.
After an executive session, the school voted to hire Frances Woodyard as a preschool aide for the upcoming school year. They also voted to employ the following people as substitute teachers: Kathy Hopper, Irene Carroll, Sheila Austin, Sharon Neil, Dan Nessling, Deborah Strain, Tonya Combs and Amy Brosch. The board approved Joy Collins and Joan Benz as substitute cooks.
