Woman killed in accident at Many Islands

A West Plains woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident south of Mammoth Spring July 10.

According to a report from Troop I of the Arkansas State Police, killed was Nancy C. Bailey, 61 of West Plains. Also injured in the accident was John W. Liverman, 51, of Sylacuga, Ala.

The state police said Bailey, driving a 1993 Mazda van, was north bound on U.S. 63 about seven miles south of Mammoth Spring near the Many Islands turn-off. Liverman, driving a 2006 Freight Liner was also north bound. Liverman attempted to pass Bailey on the left side of the highway when the Bailey van merged into the pathway of the semi.

The report said the vehicles collided and the Bailey van rotated approximately 90 degrees clockwise back into the path of the semi. Both of the vehicles came to rest in the south bound lane of the highway.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at 3:45 p.m.

Liverman was taken to OMC in West Plains by air ambulance.

Trooper Daniel Busch was the investigating officer at the accident scene.
