Shirley Marilyn (Cozort) Meadows, 70, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Mammoth Spring, Ark., died July 10, 2007, after suffering complications from colon cancer and a 25 year battle with Lupus. Shirley was born Aug. 9, 1936, at Many Islands, Ark., the only child of Hubert T. and Imogene Benton Cozort, who preceded her in death.
She attended Mammoth Spring Grade School and graduated from Mammoth Spring High School in 1954. She loved playing basketball and played on the school team as a forward. She received her Bachelor's of Art degree in education from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro in 1957. It was there where she met the love of her life, Joe Meadows, of Holcomb, Mo. They were married June 7, 1958 in Senath, Mo.
She taught elementary school in Missouri for both the Kennett and North Kansas City School Districts. After moving to Hutchinson, Kan., in 1964, she became a fulltime mother. In 1968 they moved to Wichita, Kan. In 1976, she returned to teaching, spending 14 of those years full time as a 4th grade teacher. She retired in 1992.
She is survived by: her husband, Joe; a daughter, ?Jo Beth and son-in-law, Jeff Rood; a son, Robert and daughter-in-law Jill all of Wichita, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Rachel Allison and Alex Rood, Lindy, David and Lucy Meadows.
Funeral services were held July 16 in Ashbury, UMC in Wichita, with interment following at Resthaven Cemetery.
