Free obituary policy and guidelines

For all Areawide Media publications Villager-Journal, The News, The South Missourian News

Can include: One photo, name, age, city where deceased lived, date and location of birth, parents names, date and location of death.

Deceased's occupation and place of employment, military service, names of clubs or organizations deceased was a member of, religious affiliation.

Survivors names, relationship to deceased, where the survivor lives. If space permits, grandchildren's names can be listed if they do not exceed 10 names. We reserve the right to omit names and replace with the number of survivors.

Relatives proceeding the deceased in death.

Funeral services date and location; person officiating; burial information; donation to preferred charity; funeral home in charge of arrangements.

List of pallbearers and honorary pallbearers names.

All obits will be edited. Should the family of the deceased wish to include any other information, the entire obit will have to be paid for according to the rates of each newspaper the obit is published in. An obituary is a public announcement of a person's death and is not intended as a tribute or memoriam to the deceased. There will be a charge for that type of announcement based on the rates of the newspaper(s).

All obits must be sent to Areawide Media by the funeral home handling the arrangements. The obit must be sent on the letterhead of the funeral home. If obit is e-mailed by the funeral home, letterhead information must be included.

No date of publication is guaranteed for a free obit but will be run as space permits.
