Separate wrecks, same place
ALTON -- No one received serious injuries in two separate automobile accidents at the same location May 16 near Alton.
Oregon County Chief Deputy Eric King said the accidents occurred four miles west of Alton on U.S. Highway 160. He said the first accident happened at 11:20 a.m.
In the first accident, Jessica Stewart, 26, of Modesto, Calif., swerved to miss a small animal in the highway. Stewart ran off the left side of the highway into a ditch.
Neither Stewart nor her daughter, Audrey, 2, a passenger in the vehicle, was injured.
The second accident occurred four minutes later.
King said when Janet Moulder, 48, of Alton came upon the scene of the first accident, she ran off the road, overcorrected the 1998 Isuzu she was driving before rolling the vehicle down the center of the highway, landing on top of a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer that belonged to an unidentified first responder at the accident scene.
The Blazer was parked in a ditch and was not involved in the prior accident. No one was in the Blazer when the Moulder vehicle landed on top of it.
Moulder suffered minor injuries in the accident. She was ticketed for careless and imprudent driving by Trooper J.C. Howell of Troop G of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
