Two teens injured in wrecks

Thursday, July 27, 2006

OREGON COUNTY -- An Alton teenager was injured July 19 in a one-vehicle accident near Alton.

Lauren Treptow, 19, was driving a 2001 Volkswagon Beetle when it ran off the road, struck a tree, overturned and burned.

Trooper Darren Wheeler said the accident occurred at 12:28 a.m. on U.S. 160.

Treptow was airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Treptow was not wearing a seatbelt.

A Thayer teenager, Shawna Bentley, 17, suffered injuries in a three-vehicle crash July 15 on Highway 142, five miles east of Thayer.

Trooper J.C. Howell said an eastbound 1995 Oldsmobile driven by Jackie Meir, 16, of Myrtle rear-ended a 1998 Mazda driven by Stephanie Payne, 18, of Doniphan, causing it to rear-end a 1995 Ford driven by Jessica Evans, 19, of Mammoth Spring, which was stopped to make a left turn.

Howell said Bentley, a passenger in the Meier vehicle, was taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.

Bentley and Payne were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
