Voters will vote in primary election

Thursday, July 27, 2006

MISSOURI -- Voters in Missouri will have the opportunity to vote either Democratic or Republican in the Aug. 8 Primary Election.

In addition to voting for a favorite candidate, voters will have the opportunity to vote yes or no on proposed Missouri Constitutional Amendment 1.

If passed, the amendment would reinstate the existing 1/10th - percent sales and use tax for 10 years.

The tax funds soil and water conservation programs as well as the operation of state parks and historic sites.

If passed the proposed constitutional amendment would continue until 2016. A separate sales and use tax of 1/10th of 1 percent is set to end 2008.

The tax would generate approximately $82 million annually for soil and water conservation efforts and operation of the state park system in Missouri.
