Thursday, July 6, 2006

THAYER -- Doyle Fink has been named Thayer Citizen of the Year in recognition of his "tireless" work to better Thayer.

The award was announced June 26 at the Thayer Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet at the Warm Fork Restaurant.

Dr. Howard Mainprize made the announcement.

Fink is a 1958 graduate of Thayer High School who spent most of his working years as a mine safety health inspector for the Federal Department of Labor. He retired in 2006.

"Since then he has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Thayer community," Mainprize said.

Fink is a past president of the Thayer-Mammoth Spring Rotary Club. He has served as vice president of the West Plains Association of Retired Federal Employees and maintains a position on the Thayer Fire Department Board of Directors.

Fink is currently adjutant for Charles Burkett America Legion Post 344. He heads the finance committee at Thayer First Baptist Church, volunteers at the Oregon County Food Pantry and is a member of the VFW Post 7831.

This is the 25th year the chamber has honored a resident of Thayer with the Thayer Citizen of the Year honor.

Three new Thayer Chamber of Commerce directors were also elected at the banquet. They were Harvey Allen, Mildred Cornelius and Bob Eckman. The nominees were Lisa Cates, Brenda Dennis, Faith Holt, Allen, Cornelius and Eckman.

Jim Hart serves as the chamber president, Bob Eckman vice president, Kim Hart secretary, and Adam Courter treasurer.

The Red Apple Trio supplied the entertainment for the banquet.

The keynote speakers at the banquet were Houston Economic Developer Ron Reed and Executive Director and Economic Developer of Retail of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce Linda Sue Jones-Lewis.

The banquet was sponsored by the Chestnut Hill Gallery, Fun and Friends Senior Citizen Center and Jason's Chapel Hill Florist.
