Carl G. Haufe, 70, of Cherokee Village died June 24, 2006, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.

Haufe was born on May 26, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Gustave Haufe and Emma (Herter) Haufe.

He worked for many years as a supervisor for United Parcel Service before retiring and moving to Cherokee Village 15 years ago from Buffalo Grove, Ill.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Senior Horseshoe Pitchers in Cherokee Village, the manager of the senior citizens softball team and president of the senior bowling league.

He was an avid fisherman and card player and particiapted in the Senior Olympics.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he volunteered to help with bingo and often served as an usher.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Depowski Haufe of the home; one son and daugher-in-law, Stephen and Theresa Haufe of McHenry, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Carol Haufe of Niles, Ill.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth; and one son, Phillip.

A funeral mass was held June 27 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Atunzu officiating.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
