Calico Rock outlasts Mammoth Spring

Thursday, May 8, 2008

In a game that nearly lasted three hours, the Calico Rock Pirates knocked Mammoth Spring out of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Brockwell by a count of 22-13 May 3.

Not exactly the crispest game on record, the two squads combined for 14 errors on the afternoon, six from the Pirates, eight from the Bears.

The contest was also full of long balls, as Calico Rock's Jarret Moorehead went yard twice, while Zack Brandon and Joey Vannatter also added homers for the Pirates.

Andrew Burke went deep for Mammoth Spring.

Moorehead also drove in nine runs for Calico Rock, with Brandon logging five ribbies and Vannatter four.

Burke and Seth Godwin drove in two runs apiece for Mammoth Spring.

With the win, Calico Rock earns a trip to the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament, also being held at Izard County High School in Brockwell.
