Encore performances planned at dinner theater

Thursday, March 30, 2006

The Bank of Pocahontas will sponsor the first in a brand new series of productions at the Imperial Dinner Theatre in Pocahontas. The Bravo series will be shows that are encore performances for the Imperial Players and will fill the gaps between regular season productions. The number of show dates will be half that of regular season shows. The Bravo productions will honor Premiere Circle members' seats.

The Boys Next Door will be the first Bravo production and will be showing weekends throughout May. The Boys Next Door is one of the most successful shows in the history of the Imperial.

"The Imperial Players toured with this show for five years which really put our company on the map. People are always asking when we are doing 'Boys' again," said Kelly Grooms, Imperial artistic director. "We are thrilled to be bringing it back, as it is one of our favorites as well."

The heartwarming show brings both laughter and tears as it focuses on the lives of four mentally challenged men who share an apartment under the watchful eye of a sincere, but increasingly burned out social worker. Filled with humor and social message, the play is also marked by compassion and understanding.

As is the case with all Imperial productions, Bravo productions are excellent opportunities for special occasions for travel groups, student groups, church groups, or any group that desires an evening of entertainment. Groups of 20 or more qualify for a special discounted rate.

"May is the perfect time for end-of-the-year student outings," said Michelle Kercheval, business administrator for the Imperial. "The Imperial is very education minded, and our actors love to talk to guests after the show, answer any questions they may have, and even take students on tours of the stage and backstage area."

Command performances can be arranged for groups of 50 or more, and for these, a podium and microphone are available as large groups sometimes desire to combine the evening with a business or awards type meeting.

Tickets are on sale now for The Boys Next Door. Show dates are May 5, 6, 13, 14, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28. Prices for tickets are $19.95, $17.95, $12, and $10. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 870-892-0030.
