Teen injured in wreck; stops at KFC

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

A 16-year-old Mammoth Spring girl is recuperating from injuries she suffered in a one-car wreck in Highland June 5.

Chantel A. Branam was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina east on Highway 62/412 in Highland in the outside lane around 1:45 p.m. when a vehicle in front of her turned right to enter Rapid Collision Repair, Highland Police Chief Bea Sharp said.

To avoid hitting the vehicle in front of her, Branam swerved to the left causing her to lose control of her car, Sharp said. The car then traveled across all five lanes of traffic, went through a fence, struck a pine tree, ran over a parking block and then struck two vehicles parked in the KFC parking lot before coming to rest, Sharp said.

The 1986 Dodge van owned by Sandra Sizemore and the 2000 Ford Windstar van owned by Linda Lorenz were unoccupied at the time of the wreck.

Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service transported Branam to White River Medical Center in Batesville for treatment. Branam has underwent several surgeries, Sharp said.

Branam was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. No citations were issued.
