Century 4-H family program created

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

OREGON COUNTY - For many years University Extension has offered a special program to honor family farms which are 100 years old. That program is called Century Farms and there are many University Extension Century Farms in Oregon County.

Oregon County Extension 4-H Youth Development Program Specialist Assistant Nancy Reed said Extension has developed a new program focusing on family 4-H.

"The Missouri 4-H Century Family recognition program was created on the 100th year of 4-H in 2002," Reed said.

The program is designed to recognize Missouri 4-H families with a combined 100 years or more of membership and/or volunteer service in 4-H," Reed said.

Families will be recognized at the local level with a Century 4-H Family certificate and their name added to the Missouri 4-H Foundation Web site for all to see.

Reed said the real value of the program is having multiple family generations talking to each other about their 4-H experience.

Applications for the 2007 Century 4-H Family program are due to the Missouri 4-H Foundation by July 4.

Reed said applications for the program can be picked up in her office at Alton.

For more information about the program call Reed during normal business hours at 417-778-7490.
