Marcell Tanner, of Oxford, Ark., son of the late Floyd and Eva Hickman Tanner, was born June 21, 1928, in Fulton County, Elizabeth, Ark. He died June 22, 2007, at the Hospice House of the Ozarks in Mountain?Home at the age of 79.
He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Merrell on Nov. 19, 1955, at Viola, Ark. To this union three children were born.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the Tri-County Shirt Factory in Salem for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Union.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Lou of Oxford; his children, Bruce Tanner and wife Adoncie of Dardanelle, Brenda Robbins and husband Nickey of Jordan and Douglas Tanner of Oxford; sisters, Nadine Cochran and husband, J.D. of Mountain Home and Novellene Wray of Salem; a brother-in-law, Guy Singleton of Gainesville, Mo.; and sister-in-law, Luella Tanner of Salem; grandchildren: Marcia and Kyle Vance, Candi and Mike Morgan, Brian Tanner, Allen and Hope Roberts, Amber and Matt Rush, Bradley and Jenna Robbins, Jayde Robbins, Divella and Richie Gray, Asa and Lora Davis; great-grandchildren: Keegan,?Paige, Garrett, Kylea, Colby, Mayson, Anna, Morgan and Kole.
He was preceded in death by: a brother, Melvin Tanner; a sister, Modine Singleton; and his father and mother.
Services were held June 24 at Cox-Blevins Funeral?Home in Salem with burial following in the Union Cemetery; Arrangements were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
