New Foundation will benefit all

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

A new foundation is being established for the Fulton County Hospital. It's an idea that will have a long term, positive impact on this area.

Other hospitals such as Baxter Regional Medical Center continues to grow, and thrive, due in part to the efforts of their Foundation Board.

The Fulton County Hospital Foundation Board's purpose is to raise and distribute funds to help all of us.

Some funds could be used to furnish a waiting room or family lounge for the hospital or any of the new areas our hospital will have in the near future.

Other funds will eventually go towards community scholarships to help area youth continue their education.

Some of these funds will go to those who need a helping hand paying medical expenses.

It's a good idea and one that needs the support of everyone. Residents of Sharp, Izard and Fulton counties in Arkansas and Oregon County in Missouri all stand to benefit from this Foundation. Everyone should be involved in some way. Whether it's an idea for a fundraiser, making a private donation, getting a church or club group involved in its own fundraising effort, volunteering your talent or attending an event, each person's effort will make a difference in the success of this new Foundation.

With the closing of the hospital in Cherokee Village a few years ago, the need to keep the Fulton County Hospital open and up-to-date with services and equipment, became the goal of many people. Even though several medical clinics have extended their services to help fill the void left by the hospital closing, having a hospital facility with emergency room services is vital to the welfare of this area.

This week's story about the establishment of the Foundation and it's purpose is just one of many you will read in this paper in the near future. We encourage everyone to follow the development of this Foundation and to become involved. Support the fundraisers and encourage others to do so.

This area is lucky to have a diverse population with numerous skills and talent.

We've watched a small group in Horseshoe Bend band together and build an incredible library that was "given" to the city by its residents. That was amazing.

We've seen a group of churches with a dream to build a Christian retirement community accomplish something some thought would never happen. The result is Fountain Place and Cherokee Villagers are proud to have it in their city.

Now, we all have the opportunity to band together and make the Fulton County Hospital a medical complex that can meet the demands of a growing area. Let's all get busy.
