Jessie May Houck Moore, 88, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Southwest City, Mo., died March 12, 2006, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., following an illness.

She was born May 1, 1917, in Carrizo Springs, Texas, one of seven children, born to the late Marion Thomas and Emma Alberta Bolton Brown.

She married Claude Elmer Houck Aug. 8, 1942. He preceded her in death in Sept. of 1965.

Houch later married Ralph D. Moore and they have been together 37 years. They moved from Southwest City to Joplin in 1997.

In her younger days she worked at Robinson's Drug Store and Fred's Cafe both in Southwest City and The Ben Franklin in Noel.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and generous friend who loved to cook wonderful meals, plant flowers and sew quilts for her family.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Southwest City, Mo.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph D. Moore, of Joplin, Mo.; three daughters, Lynnie "Lynn" Houck Hobbs and husband, William (Bill) of Thayer, Treva Shields and husband, Duane of Rogers, Ark., Verline Stephens and husband, Bob, of Joplin, Mo.; one son, Elmer Thomas Houck of Neosho, Mo.; one brother, Floyd Brown and wife, Martha of Vega, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Hobbs, Michael Martin, Debbie Judd, Julie Montgomery, Stephanie Vantine, Holly Squires, Stacy Little and Doug Stephens, 15 great-grandchildren and many friends, neighbors and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude Elmer Houck, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held March 16 at First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo with Rev. Ray Clanton officiating.

Burial was in the Southwest City Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Walker-Dowd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tommy Hobbs, Ruby Gonzalez, G.W. Tompkins, Bill Beachcamp, Bobby King and Fred Lamb.
