AREA -- The 2007 Toys for Tots Toy Drive is now underway. The drive is sponsored annually by VFW Post 7831 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Mammoth Spring.
According to Ladies Auxiliary President Dorothy Parks, boxes will be placed throughout the stateline area for anyone wishing to donate a toy.
"The Thayer FBLA will be collecting toys for the drive and will donate all the toys they collect to the Toys for Tots Toy Drive," Parks said.
Any new or good used toy can be left at Cotham's Auction Barn in Mammoth Spring, Mammoth Spring City Hall and Riverbend Restaurant. Money donated will also be accepted to buy toys for the toy drive, she said.
Parks said all toys collected will be distributed with the help of Santa at a Christmas party that will be held at the VFW Hall in Mammoth Spring. She said the party will be closed except for invited families who will be receiving toys.
"Anyone who would like to donate a toy for the project or anyone who knows a family that might need help, can contact VFW Commander Wayne Haney at 870-625-3984 of myself at 870-625-7667 after 6 p.m.," Parks said.
She said the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary are very grateful for the help received from area businesses in the community. "We encourage the area to help support the program by supporting businesses in our area. Many children in the area have received Christmas toys in the past due to this program," she said.
