Sheriff scholarship available

Thursday, December 6, 2007

OREGON COUNTY -- Oregon County Sheriff Tim Ward announced last week that Oregon County high school seniors may apply for the John Dennis Scholarship.

"This will be for high school seniors that will be criminal justice majors in college," Ward said. He added that the scholarship is awarded by the Missouri Sheriff's Association.

Ward said the scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000 and will be awarded to 16 seniors across the state.

"Local seniors must be in good standing with their school, have a good reference from a school counselor, demonstrate financial need and have a grade point of 2.0 or greater, and be involved in extracurricular activities," the sheriff said. Ward added that a paragraph must be attached to the application telling about the students goals ten years after graduation.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship can call 573-635-5925 for an application. Applications must be returned by Jan. 31, 2008.
