OREGON COUNTY -- Oregon County organizations and agencies looking for a few good volunteers should check with Missouri State University at West Plains' new Volunteer Center to find the help they need.

Kay Garrett, will be the Volunteer Center coordinator. She recently retired from teaching on the campus. "Our new center provides a clearing house of information about faculty, staff and students who are available to provide volunteer help in the community," Garrett said.

Garrett said the campus is filled with many students from the Oregon County/Mammoth Spring area and service organizations in the local area need to be aware there are students willing to give their time as volunteers.

She said the center was formed by Chancellor Drew Bennett as a way to determine how many hours the faculty, staff and students already give to the community. "We are still in the process of counting, but we know that the people of our campus give literally tens of thousands of hours each year to causes they care about in the communities we serve, including Oregon County and Mammoth Spring," she said.

She said she would like to hear from Oregon County and Mammoth Spring agencies and organizations who need some extra help in their service effort. "We want to create a data base of volunteer opportunities that we can match with the interests of our students, faculty and staff," she said.

Service organizations and agencies in the county needing help are asked to call 417-255-7230.
