Cooper helps Lady Katz open strong

Melbourne freshman Maggie Cooper made her way onto the high-school golfing scene in a big way, winning medalist honors twice as the Lady Bearkatz pushed past the Izard County Consolidated Lady Cougars in a pair of season-opening matches last week.

Cooper carded a 9-over 46 Aug. 7 at Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend to tie for medalist honors with ICC's Rachel Harmon.

For the afternoon, the two-time defending state champions from Melbourne shot a team score of 147, while the Lady Cougars posted a 180.

Sara Moser added a 49 for the Lady Katz, with Abby Cooper recording a 52 for the day.

After Harmon's 46, Leathyr Spangler carded a 64 for ICC, while teammate Sierra Riley finished with a 70.

Maggie Cooper was at it again Aug. 9, grabbing medalist honors for Melbourne as the Lady Bearkatz knocked off ICC 138-192 at Cooper's Hawk in Melbourne.

Cooper shot a 7-over 43, while Moser shot a 46, and Olivia Morris a 49 for Melbourne.

Harmon again paced the Lady Cougs with a 49, Spangler finished with a 69, and Riley logged a 74.

In boys' action, Melbourne squeaked past the Cougars 121-129.

Sam Cooper earned medalist honors for the Bearkatz with a 1-under 35.

Adam Cooper followed with a 38, Keifier Smith a 48 and Kody Caraway a 50.

Jeremy Burns paced ICC with a 37, while Stephen McCormick carded a 45, Spencer Caraway a 47, and Chase Massey a 50 for the Cougs.
