Ruth Freda Cockman 84, was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Alton, Mo., the daughter of the late Sam Williams and Edith E. Darr Williams. She died July 17, 2007, in West Plains, Mo.
She was united in marriage June 7, 1941, in Alton to Ralph L. Cockman, who preceded her in death March 25, 2001.
She was truly a homemaker, always putting her family before herself. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed needlework.
She was a Christian and a member of the Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church near Alton, for many years.
She is survived by: two daughters, Linda Anderson and husband Norman of West Plains and Brenda Gum and husband Mike of West Plains; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Cockman of Thayer; seven grandchildren, Rod Anderson and wife, Leigh Ann of Cleveland, Ohio, Brad Anderson and wife, Tonya of Nashville, Tenn., Amber Gum and husband Robert Brand of Tampa, Fla., Jesse Gum of Birmingham, Ala., Patricia Britt and husband, Dean of Thayer, Lavonda ?Hardwick of Thayer and Leland Cockman and wife, Elisabeth of Jonesboro, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Randy, Crystal and Kelsey; several nieces; nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Ralph Cockman; one son, Larry Cockman; two brothers, Herb Williams and Bill Williams.
Funeral services were held July 20 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Keith Combs and Junior Andrews officiating. Burial followed in the Cave Springs Cemetery near Alton with arrangements by the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
