Drs. E. Harlin and Mary K. "Kit" Staires celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 5.
Harlin Staires graduated from Alton High school in 1943. After serving two and one-half years in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist's mate in the Pacific area, he returned home to Alton to attend the University of Missouri. While there he met and married Kit and ultimately earned the doctor of education degree. He spent 40 years in the field of education. The last 20 years he was vice-president at Northern Arizona University where Kit earned the doctor of education degree.
He then retired as professor emeritus and they now live six months a year in Sun City, Ariz., and six months of the year in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. They are the parents of Steven Staires of Wimberly, Texas, Deborah Ziemann of Tempe, Ariz., and Phillip Staires of Flagsaff, Ariz. The couple has five grandchildren.
