One-vehicle wreck injures 17-year-old

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

A 17-year-old Highland High School student was seriously injured in a one-vehicle wreck on Highway 62/412 in Highland April 29.

Courtney D. Fry of Ash Flat was driving a 1997 4-door Chrysler west on Highway 62/412 in the outside lane when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and into the ditch, said Highland Officer Jeremy Stevens. The vehicle then returned to the highway, slid 126 feet across all five lanes of traffic, traveled 76 feet down the shoulder of the road and overturned 88 feet before coming to rest facing north in the ditch, Stevens said. Fry was ejected from the vehicle and was found lying 12 feet away, he said.

Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service transported Fry to Fulton County Hospital in Salem. She was then airlifted to a Springfield, Mo., hospital where she remained as of press time May 1.

The wreck occurred at 9:57 p.m. near the intersection with Hospital Drive, Stevens said.

Fry was not wearing her seatbelt, Stevens said. Citations are pending, he said.
