Sterling Avery Rogers, age 72, of Alton, Mo., was born July 5, 1934, in Henderson County, Texas, the son of the late Albert Henry Rogers and Lena Attaline Price Rogers. He died March 28. 2007, at his home in Alton.

On Feb. 14, 1961, he married Darlene Roland Rogers in Lima, Ohio. He and Darlene have two daughters: Suzanne (Rogers) Dennis and Steve Dennis of Colona, Ill., and Nanette Rogers Thornton and Fred H. Thornton III?of Sikeston, Mo.; and his son, Harold Rogers, who resides in Texas.

Grandchildren include Beth and Alex Dennis of Colona, Ill., and Cole and Sarah Thornton of Sikeston, Mo.;

He served over 20 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1975. He then retired to Oregon County and established farming. He served on numerous community boards and was instrumental in the establishment of the BB Volunteer Fire Department and later served as fire chief. ?He was a member of the Alton Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services were held April 2 at the Many Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Wiggs officiating.

Interment followed in the Many Springs Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home in Alton.
