Warriors roll to big finish; rack up 16-5 record with lop-sided wins

Thursday, April 12, 2007

The Mountain View fifth-grade Warriors wrapped up their hardwood season recently with an impressive record of 16-5.

Included on the Warriors' roster is Tyler Hedden, grandson son of Kenny and Connie Hedden and Mike and Joye Sanders, all of Thayer. Hedden is the great-grandson of Clark and Lucille Sanders, also of Thayer.

The Warriors started their season with a bang in the Licking League, blowing out teams 60-7 and 62-6, before the league expanded and forced the Warriors to play sixth-grade teams as well as fifth-grade squads.

Mountain Grove and West Plains were the only teams to defeat the Warriors in league play.

The Warriors took part in two fifth-grade tournaments, going 3-1 in the Springfield Holiday MAYB Tournament, and they knocked off Hollister 58-8 in the Branson Hoop Fest.

This group of youngsters has been playing basketball, football and baseball together for the past four years, and this togetherness shows in the team's results.

No matter the sport, this group has dominated opponents; from beating teams by 50 points or more in basketball, winning the Mighty Mite Super Bowl in football, to winning summer baseball tournaments, the Warriors are a force to be reckoned with.
