Cookie sale under way

Friday, January 12, 2007

It is Girl Scout cookie time. Area girls will be taking orders through Jan. 15. The cookies cost $4 per box. The girls have eight varieties: Caramel Delites, Peanut Butter Patties, Thin Mints, Shortbread Peanut Butter Sandwich, Cartwheels (oatmeal); Thanks-a-lot (shortbread with chocolate) and new this year is Lemonades, a lemon drop cookie.

Cookies will be delivered in mid February.

Girl Scout cookie sales are tradition that was started in 1917 by a Girl Scout Troop in Muskogee, Okla. The idea the troop had to bake and sell cookies grew and spread across the country. In 1936 the National Girl Scout Organization enlisted commercial bakers to produce the cookies.

Girl Scout cookies are a 90-year old tradition.
