OREGON COUNTY -- The Mark Twain National Forest is looking for private concessionaires to operate seven National Forest Service campgrounds, including Greer Campground north of Alton.
Mark Twain National Forest Supervisor Ronnie Raum said most of the the sites are located along rivers or streams. Greer Campground is located on the Eleven Point River.
The campground includes picnic areas and boat launches as well as the actual campground.
Raum said more than one campground can be operated at the same time by an individual. "Selection will be based on the technical merit of the proposal," he said.
Raum said those hired to operate the facilities will be authorized to collect fees from visitors and also will maintain the campsites. He said this will include cleaning toilets, trash collection and minor improvements to keep the areas safe for those visiting the campsites.
Raum said anyone interested in being a National Forest Service concessionaire needs to submit a proposal by the close of business Jan. 12 and be available to go to work no later than May 15. He said the positions should be filled by Jan. 30.
Proposals may be sent to Raum at 401 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO. 65401.
