"The very key to our success has been our ability, foremost among nations, to preserve our lasting values by making change work for us rather than against us."
- Ronald Reagan
David Cox, our managing editor since 2001, accepted a job with the Paducah Sun in Paducah, Ky., and said goodbye to us on Jan. 31.
David was a great editor to work with, and he will be missed.
We wish him and his family the very best as they begin their new journey.
So, now Areawide has a new managing editor ... and that would be me -- Erma Harris.
I have worked with Areawide part time for several years and full time as the news editor for the past year. I have been in the newspaper business for most of 30 years and have some experience in just about every area of a newspaper.
I began working at the West Plains Daily Quill in 1975. From there I have worked for the Council Bluffs Nonpareil, Areawide Media in the '80s, Batesville Daily Guard and the Easy Living News -- a newspaper my husband, Tom, and I owned and operated for 12 years.
I thought when we sold our paper, I wanted to get out of the newspaper industry. But, after only a few years, I came back to it and I've never regretted my decision.
The news department has always been my favorite and I'm glad to be back in this area of the newspaper business.
David has left me a great staff to work with.
Chris Wulff is our reporter for Sharp County. She does an excellent job getting to the important stories, and her photography skill is great.
Terry Mullins is our hard-working sports editor, and he does an outstanding job covering a very large area. His articles and photos are pasted into many scrapbooks in the area, I'm sure.
Jan Sisk Lawrence has been with Areawide for 17 years. She digs-out the stories in Oregon County and Mammoth Spring. Jan is very dedicated and works hard to cover events important to the people in her area.
Brooke Ninemire is our newest reporter. She covers Fulton and Izard counties. She is holding down a fulltime job and pursuing her master's degree at ASU in Jonesboro. She's learning fast and each week gets stronger with her reporting skills.
Will there be changes in the newspapers? Possibly. But, hopefully they will be changes that improve our publications.
I can't promise you'll like everything we do, but I can promise we'll give you our best ... every single week.
