Army Pvt. Travis L. McPherson graduated from basic combat training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. on May 19.
McPherson is the son of Randall and Catharine McPherson of Thayer. He is a 2005 graduate of Thayer High School.
During his 14 weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises. The final five weeks of training was spent training as a combat engineer.
McPherson is currently stationed with the 43rd ASG Support Group at Fort Carson, Colo.
