Dennis Arthur Petersen, 63, of Cherokee Village died Jan. 26, 2007.
He was born Nov. 7, 1943, the son of Bernice Beeh and Paul Petersen in Chicago, Ill. He lived most of his life in Kankakee, Ill.
He attended Kankakee Senior High School, graduating with the class of 1961. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Lance Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1967. On Aug. 9, 1969, he married Angela Marie Adamo.
He attended Olivet Nazarene University where he majored in Sociology, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in 1971. For 35 years he was employed as a rehabilitation counselor for the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation in Kankakee. He retired in 2000 and shortly thereafter moved with his wife to Cherokee Village.
During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Cherokee Village and Hardy. He enjoyed fishing in Arkansas' many lakes and rivers and traveling throughout the United States, Caribbean and Italy. He was a certified master gardner.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Angela Petersen; two sons, Erik Petersen of Santa Barbara, Calif, and Kristofer Petersen of Cherokee Village.
His parents; and older brother, Paul; and a niece, Melanie, preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held Jan. 31 at Peace Lutheran Church with Patsor Brian Pummill presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Peace Lutheran Church.
Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland was in charge of the arrangements.
