Dillinger makes more changes

Thursday, December 21, 2006

Changes continue in the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.

Johnny Byler, 24, of Ash Flat began working as a new deputy Dec. 14.

Byler, who is a 2001 graduate of Highland High School, has previous experience working with law enforcement; he served as a guard at the Izard County Department of Corrections in Calico Rock for over two years.

"He really seems like a nice young man," Fulton County Sheriff Walter Dillinger said. "I think we'll be really pleased to have him."

In a separate event, a serving deputy has lost his position.

Former Fulton County Chief Deputy Terry Walker was told by Dillinger that he was no longer needed to serve in the position of chief deputy Dec. 12. Though he will not be serving as chief deputy, he will continue in his duties as a Fulton County deputy, according to Dillinger.

Walker would not comment, except to say that Dillinger's decision was, "Quite a shock."

Dillinger would not reveal any specific information regarding Walker's demotion. "It's just a decision I made," he said.

Dillinger did say that he did not anticipate appointing a new chief deputy. He said he planned to assume Walker's responsibilities. "I'm gonna handle everything myself -- everything will go through me," Dillinger said.
